Company Overview
Network-1 (Stock Symbol: NSSI) owns a portfolio of patents covering various telecommunications and data networking technologies most notably the patent covering the delivery of Power over an Ethernet cable for the purpose of remotely powering network devices like your VoIP phone, and the transmission of audio, video and data over computer and telephony networks. For example, your phone at home is most likely not plugged into a wall like your microwave or radio. It is powered over an Ethernet cord and NSSI's patent covers the detection of a device capable of handling the power about to be sent, a large part of the industry standard.
The Company's strategy is to enforce their IP by pursuing licensing and strategic business alliances with companies in the industries that manufacture and sell products that make use of the technologies underlying its patents. The patent currently covers the industry standard meaning that an estimated 350 companies have adopted this technology. This is an important point because as NSSI will look to license the entire industry, the court cases will look relatively the same.
